An Experience at Durhan White Beach Resort, Tabuelan, Cebu

As Cebu City celebrated its Charter Day on February 24, and the country its EDSA Day on February 25, it was very tempting for a working professional like me to use these holidays as appropriate moments to rest the mind, relax the body, and contemplate on things, both personally and professionally. So without further thinking, I turned on my pc and checked out several places within the Cebu province that are not so popular but seemed to be enticing. Thus, I came across Durhan White Beach Resort in Tabuelan.

Tabuelan is a municipality somewhere in the northeastern part of the province of Cebu, which can be reached either via the south road (Toledo to Tuburan) or the north road (Danao to Sogod). Since this trip is dubbed to be an adventure one, I decided to take both routes from Talisay City (south of Cebu), via the south going to Tabuelan, and via the north from Tabuelan back to Talisay City. Nonetheless, both directions covered approximately 3 hours of travel time using a private car and a distance of approximately 102 km.

True to its word, Durhan White Beach Resort indeed boasts of its white sand, and a close to perfection tranquility. One could not hear anything except for the sound produced by the sea water, a sound that reminds everyone of how peaceful earth really is…

I availed of a 2-person air-conditioned room since I was with a friend and colleague Luni, and with my beloved dog Johnie, who by the way was allowed to stay with us at the resort. The room was exactly the way it was shown in their website. It had a small double-sized bed, a small cabinet/drawer for clothes, and quite a big bathroom with hot and cold shower. And yes, it did not have a bidet, but as traditional as a Filipino family would have it, there was a small pail with a “tabo” (a small plastic bucket usually held in one hand usually for anal cleansing). The room that is just across the sea only costs P 1,500.00 for an overnight use.

It was past lunchtime when we reached the resort therefore we were really hungry at that time. So after unpacking our things, we immediately headed to their restaurant that offered only a few choices. Food servings were basically good for two (2) and quite expensive for that matter.

With a stomach already full and having rested for quite some time, we then started to stroll around the area and found a number of things created solely for leisure and relaxation, such as a volleyball net for beach volley, a basketball ring, hammocks and garden.

As the day came to an end, the more it became apparent that the resort is a real but cheaper getaway for those who love leisure in silence. A serene environment, a helpful and accommodating staff, Durhan White Beach Resort is truly a simple paradise in a widely technologically-run world.
